A member of AirlinePilotCentral.com created a website that thoroughly explains the possible mess one could be getting themselves into by choosing "Professional Pilot" as a career choice.
For most of us on here it's old news, but I'm sure there are some members on here (or guests perusing this site) that are at a point in their career decision making where this would be very useful info. http://thetruthabouttheprofession.weebly.com/

Looks like a pretty informative site for airline pilot careers, but he did a piss poor job of describing the corporate side. I wouldn't show anyone his site that was interested in the corporate side.

I think it would have been better if he just focused on the airline side of things. The very little specific information he provided about the corporate side painted a very dim picture when in fact compared to my regional friends, I feel like I have a better quality of life and also make more money. There are pros and cons to both sides. He chose to only include the cons in regards to the corporate side.
In the past I've posted threads about my job specifically. I wouldn't write a blog on it just because I'm still very inexperienced and don't have the knowledge that other more experienced corporate pilots have. |

You're right. In the "Good", "Bad", "Ugly" sections he focuses only on the airline side. Considering he's a 121 pilot, he really could only offer an accurate perception from the 121 side. I'm about to start training for a corporate job and up until now I've only experienced life as a CFI. From what I've heard and seen, it looks like there's potential for a much better life as a corporate pilot, but this can depend greatly on who hires you. Wouldn't it be great if some of our more experienced corporate pilot members on here offered some insight into life as a corporate pilot? Not hinting at anything

I don't know if you remember when this website first started, but I almost gave up aviation due to the quality of life for a typical regional airline pilot. I couldn't be happier on the corporate side of things. I'm home almost every single night and only typically work 3 days a week. When I do have an overnight, they're typically pretty decent locations and we actually get to relax and spend a good amount of time there. The draw backs are no travel bennies and we're on call most of the month. With my company I've only been given less than a days notice to a trip once. Every corporate job is different, but I love my company.

The best regional job out there is with Horizon. I'd almost quit the majors to work for them. Home almost every night. Good schedule, great planes, great routes. It doesn't get any better.
The main thing to remember if you're a corporate pilot is that you are a complete and total bottom!
